How to quote for cleaning part of a house

Quote a partial house clean by defining the selected rooms and tasks, estimating their labour time and adding the job costs that still apply.

Start with the rooms the customer wants cleaned

A partial clean covers an agreed subset of the property. Write down each included room and the work requested in it. A request for the kitchen and bathroom might exclude bedrooms, the hallway and stairs. State those exclusions so that a smaller scope stays understandable.

Ask about condition and access before estimating time. Cleaning a kitchen's accessible surfaces differs from cleaning inside the oven or cupboards. Treat extra tasks as explicit additions rather than assuming the room name covers every possible task.

Build a room-by-room time estimate

Estimate person-minutes for each task or room. Include setup and packing time once. Check whether moving between rooms or carrying equipment changes the effort. Use your own measured job history when available. The example below demonstrates arithmetic and is not a productivity standard.

Two cleaners can share this effort. They do not automatically double it. If both work for 50 elapsed minutes the total is 100 person-minutes. Confirm the allocation instead of multiplying an existing person-minute total by crew size.

Elapsed time and person-minutesTwo cleaners working for 90 elapsed minutes contribute 180 person-minutes in total. This equals one cleaner working for 180 minutes.Cleaner 1Cleaner 290 min90 min180person-minutes3 labour-hours in total
Example time allocation. Add each cleaner's time once. Do not multiply this total by crew size again.

Keep costs that remain on a smaller job

Travel and setup can still apply when the customer selects fewer rooms. Dividing a whole-house price by room count can hide these costs. Add the partial job's labour cost and the supplies it needs. Add travel and allocated overhead on the same basis you use for other jobs.

At an example £15 hourly labour cost, 100 person-minutes cost £25. Add example supplies of £3, travel of £5 and overhead of £2. Total estimated cost is £35. At a 30% target margin the indicative selling price is £50. These figures are illustrative inputs and do not describe local cleaning rates.

Example price = £35 ÷ 0.70 = £50

Open this kitchen-and-bathroom example in the calculator, then replace the illustrative inputs with your own costs and time. A minimum job price is a separate business decision. Check whether your proposed price covers the work and whether the customer understands the scope. The calculator does not set a minimum for you.

30% margin versus 30% markupFor a £54 cost, a price of £77.14 targets 30% margin. A price of £70.20 applies 30% markup. The percentages use different denominators.30% marginCost £54.00Profit £23.1430% markupCost £54.00Profit £16.20
Example inputs. Margin compares profit with selling price. Markup compares profit with cost. Amounts are rounded to the penny.

Write the exclusions beside the price

Summarise included rooms, included tasks and excluded areas in the estimate. Specify whether the first clean needs a different scope after assessment. Give the customer a way to request extra work and explain how you will agree a revised price.

A partial clean is easier to review when the document separates scope from assumptions. The cleaning quote template has fields for both. Confirm tax treatment and your own terms before sending. An indicative estimate does not reserve a visit or create a booking through this website.
